Ride to Time is an event that helps teach Pony Club riders the skills needed to ride at a given pace over a given distance. This skill is important for cross country riding and show jumping and can equip riders to be employed as track riders. Riders undertaking their C* or K certificate can also use these days to work towards having ‘ride at given pace’ task achieved and signed off.

Riders who are graded 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 for horse trials are invited to attend for the opportunity to represent the Midland Zone at the State Final.

Groups:

Maiden

The Maiden group will consist of riders graded 3, 4, or 5 for horse trials

Open

The Open group will consist of riders graded 1 and 2 for horse trials.

State Championships – Melbourne.

The Ride to Time State Championships will be the culmination of a selection process that is undertaken at Zone level. Twenty preselected Pony Club riders (1 rider from Open Grade 1/2 and 1 rider from Maiden Grade 3/4/5 per zone), each representing the ten Victorian PCAV zones, will be expected to ride at specific times. The closest finalist to that given time, after completing the respective distance will be nominated the winner of the Ride to Time event. The final is to take place in August, 2018.

Zone riders who have fulfilled the training criteria may be eligible to ride for selection for the final, either as the zone representative or as first reserve. The given speed is set at 1000m in 109sec (550 m/m) for the Open group (Grades 1 and 2) and 1000m in 120sec (500 m/m) for the Maiden group (Grades 3, 4 and 5).
